The Happening

Coffee Shops, virtual and real

The Happening was an arts event at the R&B Coffee House in Washington, D.C. that promoted photographers, painters, poets, musicians, fashion designers and other arts.

Out of Bounds was contracted by Electric Sheep Company to aid with the planning and implementation of the mixed reality event aspect of the evening. Out of Bounds advised with the overall planning and technical requirements of the event, and recreated the entire premises of the real Coffee Shop inside of Second Life in 3-D.

To add to this photorealistic recreation of the actual space, actual art displayed at the coffee house was photographed by Out of Bounds, uploaded and represented in Second Life. Attendees in D.C. were able to interact with attendees in Second Life through the use of video streaming and a virtual reality setup provided and demonstrated by Philip Torrone of O'Reilly's MAKE Magazine.
